Tumblemind Writing: Story Telling Content to Engage Your Readers

Welcome to Tumblemind Writing, I’m John Gossett and this is an introduction to my freelance writing business. I am an insatiably curious person who loves research and who loves to write. I have a knack for assembling information from many sources and organizing that information to pour out written words that tell a coherent, free-flowing story that engages and informs readers. Please allow me to tell your story, whether it’s a blog post on a topic specifically related to your site or a product you want described in a new way.

How did I arrive here? I retired as a computer engineer in 2018 and opened a woodworking business. I built cabinets and furniture for clients obtained by word-of-mouth referrals. However, as much as I loved creating beautiful things with my hands, especially after a 35+ year career working on computers, I eventually found that woodworking was not sufficiently challenging.

From my time in the U.S. Army as a computer technician where I rose to the site supervisor, to obtaining my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from Lamar University with honors, to my follow-on career as a microprocessor and SoC design verification engineer and later design verification manager, I have always thrived on mentally engaging work. In all of these positions, I wrote. I wrote intensely complex design verification plans covering the methods required to test the interactions of the entire System-on-a-Chip (SoC) and various components therein. I wrote reports and crafted presentations for managers and clients. While a manager I reviewed and proofread all of my employee’s documentation as well. I know good writing when I see it and I helped them learn to clarify their often muddled descriptions.

In addition to my career-based writing, I have created and written two personal blogs. Over the years before retirement, I spent my free time researching any topic that caught my curiosity and often acted on that research. I have brewed beer, made sauerkraut, and developed a recipe for and baked a perfect German Roggenmischbrot (rye bread) from self-made rye sourdough. I researched and installed a 1500 gallon water harvesting system to irrigate an orchard. Most of these things I have written about in my initial blog, Die Manchmal Gruene Weide. (The sometimes green pasture.) (If you’ve noticed a German theme here, it’s because I met my wife in Germany and I have a love of German life.) Because I wrote Gruene Weide blog content to share with family and friends, it is a raw unfettered look at my storytelling abilities and natural writing flow. I didn’t consciously write with correct grammar in mind, but you’ll find my writing there perfectly readable.

When I retired in 2018, I was torn between two paths forward, woodworking and writing. In addition to starting the woodworking business, I started this, my second blog www.tumblemind.com with the intent of turning it into a brand and a business. I used that space to write about my love of golf but was so busy building projects for woodworking clients that I didn’t market the writing. However, I now dedicate this site to launching my freelance content writing business. As I think of topics I’m interested in or that might be of use to people, I will add new posts. There are so many things I’ve learned and experienced that can be written about and even if I haven’t yet experienced it, I can research any new topic or product and write content that’s a joy to read.
